EMILIANO ORTÍZ

About me

I’m a Mexican composer based in France, inspired by artists such as György Kurtág, Giacinto Scelsi, Jonny Greenwood, Sigur Rós, and Son Lux. Fascinated by the spiritual music of many cultures, I like to bring these ancient colors into my music.

I enjoy experimenting with real instruments, extended techniques, and textures that feel raw and natural; the little imperfections that make sound alive. I mix these elements freely, without worrying about genres, to create honest and organic sounds.

Currently studying a second master’s degree in film scoring at the Université Lumière Lyon II, in France, I began my musical studies as a pianist at the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico, where I later studied composition. In 2023 I got my first master’s degree in composition at the University of Bergen, in Norway, with the Hungarian composer Dániel Péter Biró. My music has been premiered in Mexico, Japan, India, France and Norway, by ensembles such as Quasar Saxophone quartet, Edvard Grieg Vocal Ensemble, BIT20 ensemble, EON ensemble, among others.

Beyond academia, I’ve composed for contemporary dance and theater, documentaries, short films, and TV commercials. I’ve also worked as a composer assistant for Mexican TV series and films (IMDb). As a producer I have worked with several rock and pop artists from Mexico, Norway and India.
